Linode GPU Expansion: New Instances in Singapore and Other Updates

Linode GPU Availability

From projects for public good like Folding@Home to powering advances in data science, cloud GPUs are growing both in demand and application. We’re excited to continue our GPU expansion by adding GPUs to our Singapore data center and increasing general availability in North America and the Asia-Pacific.

Linode GPUs are powered by the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000, designed to accelerate computing for a range of use cases, from bringing autonomous driving to the masses to advancements in data analytics and machine learning.

GPU Instances Available in Singapore

Linode on-demand GPUs are now available to thriving technology markets in East Asia and Australia, where demand for cost-effective cloud infrastructure is steadily growing. GPUs are 50 to 100 times faster and up to 100 times more efficient for image processing and machine learning than standard CPUs, especially in the cloud. Expanding our availability for cloud GPUs reduces the barrier to entry for regions where GPUs are more in-demand by making them available at a more accessible price point.

According to Cloud Spectator, Linode GPU instances deliver the most cost-effective GPU-based VMs on the market, especially for rendering workloads, and start at $1.50 per hour. Like all other Linode services, our pricing is the same in every data center.

Expanded GPU Availability in Newark and Mumbai

We have significantly expanded our number of cloud GPU hosts in both Newark, NJ and Mumbai, India to provide more GPUs for customers in those regions. We’re the only cloud provider to offer the Quadro RTX 6000 GPU in the cloud. Instead of allowing multiple customers to access the same card, Linode GPU users get “dedicated” access to GPU cards in their plan for maximum processing and performance.

Cloud GPUs can be deployed via the Linode Cloud Manager, API, and Linode CLI. Some accounts are subject to additional verification. If you’re looking for multiple cards or want to sign up for a GPU trial period, contact our Sales team to talk about custom plans and apply for a free week of GPU.

    Hi Hillary,

However when I tried to create a new GPU instance at Sydney, AU, it wouldn’t let me, stating:

    > GPU instances are not available in the selected region. Currently these plans are only available in Mumbai, IN, Newark, NJ, Singapore, SG, and Frankfurt, DE.

Could you please clarify what’s the status of GPU instances in Australia? Is this in the works, if so, any ETAs for go-live, perhaps an early beta that I could sign up to?

    Thanks!

Hi Dexter – I can see how this could be a little confusing. What Hillary meant was that GPUs are available to customers in those markets, not specifically in those data centers. With GPUs available in Singapore, customers in Sydney now have an option that’s closer than Mumbai, the previously closest data center location.

We do have plans to bring GPUs to all of our data centers, though I don’t have an ETA for when they will be available in Sydney. As of today, GPUs are available in the following data centers:

      Frankfurt
      Mumbai
      Newark
      Singapore
