Apache won't start

Hello,

I'm new linode and have been following this guide https://www.linode.com/docs/websites/hosting-a-website/ to setup a simple website. Everything seems to be going fine except that apache just won't start.

The error i get is " Warning: DocumentRoot [/home/root/public/mydomain/public/] does not exist"

Directory does exist and I even have a blank index.html file there uploaded through filezilla.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Within the next hour I hope to have an updated version of this guide published with much better instructions :D

In the meantime, you might want to have a look here: https://www.linode.com/docs/websites/la … e-pangolin">https://www.linode.com/docs/websites/lamp/lamp-server-on-ubuntu-12-04-precise-pangolin

The essential difference is that putting public directories in a /home/ folder is a bad idea, and we aren't going to promote that anymore. The guide referenced above goes over a more standardized configuration.

Thank you! I'm waiting for the update.

Edit. I was able to get it working by following your guide. Thanks.

Great! Turns out the guide needs more tweaking than I thought  Hopefully by early next week the new version will go live.
