Help me choose my plan

Hi,

First, I knew you thanks to this:

http://remcobron.com/cloud-server-revie … italocean/">http://remcobron.com/cloud-server-review-and-comparison-amazon-aws-ec2-vs-linode-vs-digitalocean/

Second, my requirements:

  • crunching numbers 24/7

  • CPU power, period. No noticeable storage space, bandwidth or particular software (save for one I will provide)

  • Ubuntu (command-line, ideally 13.10 or maybe 14.04) and either root access or the possibility to add some software and dependancies I will tell you about.

One thing I have to check if the amount of RAM I need. It may be 256 Mb (or less) or up to 3Gb (but no more). I will only know this by testing.

So, what do you suggest me:

  • 24/7 computation

  • Ubuntu 13.10 + root or you install some software for me

  • flexible amount of RAM at the beginning (for initial testing purposes)

  • stripped down of everything else (=> cheaper)

Thank you

If you really need 3G of Ram, then your only plan choice will be the Linode4GB plan ($40/month).

These are UNManaged VPS systems, so anything you need, YOU setup and config.

Thanks voonskippu. I prefer it that way, unmanaged.

Does linode proposes baremetal/dedicated too (what's the difference, by the way?)? Since I need CPU power, any virtualisation layer would be a reduction in power (of course, if depends of the power/dollar ratio).

I took the Linode 2048 plan to check if this is enough. It seems that I can create several VM. But since my point is to get maximum power, I guess the best is to stick with only VM, right?

You can create several VMs, but only one of them can run at any given time.
