Setting up mail server using the default domain from Linode

Greetings!

I am setting up our new Linode and, I believe, have everything set-up correctly. However, I would like to use the default domain that Linode assigns to our server for email testing purposes (I'm referring to https://library.linode.com/email/postfi … guring-dns">https://library.linode.com/email/postfix/postfix2.9.6-dovecot2.0.19-mysql#sph_configuring-dns).

I can't seem to find any documentation on getting that done though :(.

I have:

  • Added the default domain as an alias in our /etc/hosts file

  • Added an mx record for the default domain, set it to the highest priority out of all records (10)

  • Added the domain to the virtual_domains table

  • Added the user to the virtual_users table

I've waited about 30 minutes and I cannot log-in to the account via Outlook ('Cannot find the email server' error). MXToolbox is also showing no MX records for the default domain.

Can anyone point me to some documentation for using the domain for temporary testing?

Thanks so much!

Chris
