Builing a Clone System disk

Hello

I am hoping to build a Linode that I will use to clone every time I acquire a new customer. Obviously I could just run a basic Linode build my template and leave it shut down. However is that the most efficient and of course cost effective way of doing it? I mean to me that seems a quite good solution as every time I need to tweak the template I could just boot it up and make my changes.

However, as a renowned skinflint, I was wondering if there is is a smarter and cheaper way to do it?

Thank you

wildchief,

If you're trying to do it a "cheaper way" you could host multiple website on one Linode (we host quite a few on one of our Linodes). Also, if you're paying for control panel software a single license managing multiple sites is usually cheaper than multiple licenses for one domain each.

As far as using "cloned" disc images, that is a dependable way to ensure consistent configurations and quick rollouts. The time you save is important because your time has value. Not that installing a Stack Script takes that long, but all the additional items you install and/or upgrade, their configurations, etc take time.

Configuration management tools such as ansible, chef, puppet, etc etc are quite useful as well. Instead of keeping a disk image around, you can describe the ideal configuration for your system and let the tool do the work.
