Could not access Linode.com :)

Hi my name is Arick and I live in Indonesia.

I would try to describe it as simple as possible.

  • I could not access Linode.com

  • The error page says: "This IP has been banned."

  • I use shared IP from my Internet Service provider.

Here are few questions for the staffs:

  • Is it possible to buy VPS from Linode?

  • Is there any way for me to access the page without changing the ISP? The ISP currently provide the fastest Internet provider in my Area.

I clearly understand Linode may block IPs from my country to prevent fraud. However, this also cause trouble for anyone whom really wish to do business with linode.

I am looking for reliable VPS company to host my sites. Some peoples said Linode is great company and I would like to try it by myself.

Arick Unirow.

I don't think they block ISPs/countries. Sometimes it triggers fraud detection when trying to signup in which case your account requires manual activation by the staff - but I haven't heard of site-wide blocking.

You should mail or call Linode at support@linode.com / (855-454-6633). Make sure to give them your IP and they can look into it :)

Maybe it's your ISP blocking you, try from your cell phone. Or you could register a temporary account on another hosting provider long enough to set up an ssh tunnel to see if you can port forward to the main Linode site. Then at least you'd be better able to isolate where the block or general network trouble is occurring.

Arick,

Is it possible that your ISP has blocked Linode.com rather than Linode.com blocking your IP?

It's odd that you could get to forum.linode.com but not linode.com. I guess they are in different IP blocks?

I've had that message before ironically when I was proxying through a Linode in Dallas. A quick email to support@linode.com resolved it.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to create an account but I could not even access the site. :)

Main problem is 'Linode.com' is inaccessible from my IP. I don't know why but the problem already gone. I could access linode.com from my browser. :)

My ISP aggressively block so many sites. The new rules from government block so many sites based on keyword. In the past, even Google adsense was blocked. You can read it in popular news site about it. Fortunately, Google Adsense and so many popular sites were unblocked again.

For my problem, it seems Linode may block my IP or the ISP block Linode. I do believe the 'security rules/policies of linode' may automatically block my IP.

I do think the same thing. I have sent a message to my ISP askng if they block 'Linode.com' or not. If they do, it is surely bad decision. Linode is great company and all of us already know about it.

By the way, I am accesing froum.linode, com using the same IP. :)

So forum.linode.com is accessible while linode.com remain inaccessible. :)

I didn't use proxy but get the same thing. I remember my ISP ever told me if the customer basically use 'reverse IP'. I didn't understand what the operator said as I am not familiar with 'technical stuff about IP'. :)

For all, thank you very much for the reply. I do apology for late in reply. I always check my inbox but there is no email notification so far. Out of curiosity, I click the bookmarked page (this thread) and surprised there are several replies in my thread.

It seems the problem has gone. I could access linode.com without any problem. This is the greatest news for me in this week. I wish to purchase the VPS from linode and migrate all my sites (all of them WordPress sites). However, I would wait for couple of weeks (maybe days) to make sure 'Linode.com' is always accessible from my IP.

Once again, thanks for the reply. I am really happy to see 'linode.com' in my browser.
