CentOS 6.2 ksmtuned

What exactly is ksmtuned? and is it required for Linode server to operate?

ksmtuned is for twiddling the kernel's KSM controls, which allows the kernel to merge multiple identical sections of memory into one smaller section. This is really only useful if you're running KVM in your Linode, and so you can probably remove it.
