chroot and backup

Hello all,

Is it a good idea to create a backup environment in chroot in the production machine? I understand that if there is a hardware failure, this will not help. But for other scenarios - files getting corrupted, SW updates resulting in issues etc, will it help?

If I have copied the /etc/hosts file to chroot, will that work?

Regards,

Jayadevan
