[beginner] Questions about vHost and Alias

Hi all,

Thanks to you (the community) my website show up two weeks ago, and I almost understand what I did…

I use my domain name to map my IP, (http://109.74.206.109/ > simonalibert.com.) nothing complicated here, but I wondering how I can set up a new virtual host if I don't have a domain name and HOW I can access it then?

I'm not sure to understand really, but with a alias name It may be possible? (please don't laugh :-))

My idea was to create a new Vhost, and add something like 'test' , make a alias and then access to my file with something like this http://109.74.206.109/test.

I've been following this tutorial https://library.linode.com/hosting-webs … tual-hosts">https://library.linode.com/hosting-website#sph_configuring-name-based-virtual-hosts

Thanks you very much for your time and patience :)

So do you actually have a Domain and want to add a testing domain?

If you have a real domain (simonalibert.com), just add a subdomain (test.simonalibert.com)

Setup two vhosts 1) simonalibert.com (with server alias www.simonalibert.com) and 2) test.simonalibert.com

Setup DNS "A Records" for the 3 subdomains, and you're done.
