/var/log files had wrong owner Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit

I noticed that several log files in /var/log - including auth.log -were not updating, and had the owner 'messagebus' instead of 'syslog'. After reading this:

I changed the owner to syslog and now all is well again. Had a scare for a few minutes, though.
