Setting Up VNC on Linode

Hi all

I'm very new to Linode, but enthusiastic, and was hoping to get some advice.

I am essentially trying to set up a desktop environment on the Linode so that I can connect through a VNC or something similar. I need everything on that desktop to be insulated from my PC here.

Can anyone let me know how to achieve this, or point me out in the right direction?

I'm actually happy to pay for this to be set up and for someone to teach me how to do it! My Skype is jimstark2007 if anyone is interested :).

Thanks!

Jim

Have a look at nomachine's website.

Their nxserver is free for 2 simultaneous connections to the server and their client-side software is free.

Alternatively ubuntu has freenx in one of their repositories if you only wish to run open-source.

I use nomachine server free edition for running a full gnome desktop on my linode. It's a fantastic bit of software and from what I've read it's faster than VNC.

You could try my route which is harder but for me seems to work better than NX, search the forums for my userid then select the topic "Hosted Desktops". Be sure to read all the comments, there are differences in VNC implementations.

NX is easy to install and run though, I have to admit.
