Rebooting my servers

Hi All,

I recently shut down my app server and reset the root password. Unfortunately, when I rebooted my mobile app no longer runs: there is an authentication issue. I shut it down again, re-reset the password to how it was originally, and rebooted, but I'm still running into an authentication issue.

Is there a way to reboot the server as it was originally running before I shut it down? I'm happy to have the original password in place.

thanks for your help!

Once you shut a server down, it is no longer running; getting it back up and going again depends entirely on the startup scripts. It's possible (but really unlikely) that changing the root password that way broke something, but that wouldn't be my first guess.

What has changed in the configuration since the last time it was rebooted? (And if you know what the root password was originally, why did you have to use the password recovery mechanism?)
