hostgator babyplan >> Linode 512

Dear all,

Newbie in here and not familiar in IT field. Just like to run a public forum and facing some problems.

More visitors come to my forum in AUG and hostgator started to ban my site more frequently. Their reason is SQL resource overused and compulsory shut down my site. Now I would like find another hosting company to move my php files and SQL DB in order to carry on our forum.

Check to opinion from internet and they said LINODE is reliable. I do like to move in here but some queries need to be clarified.

1) any support provided on site moving? I am not familiar on this

2) USD20 << any cpanel or familiar software provided to control the backstage?

3) any livechat in here?

Thanks for your help and hurry to move my site if feasible

I'm unfamilar with hostgator, but i'm assuming you're talking about managed hosting/managed VPS?

Linode is totally unmanaged, so:

a) Not officially. What exactly did you mean by site meaning? You should be able to just setup the same servers you are currently running on and copy your config/databases over.

b) linode's are completely unmanaged. That is you get a complete linux box that you have complete control over (that is, you get root and are responsible for everything running on it)

If you want a cpanel, you get to install/maintain it yourself on your linode.

The only "management" you get is a linode manager, which lets you manage disk sizes/etc as well as LISH. (Check the faq/features on the linode website)

c) There's an irc channel. irc.oftc.net on #linode
