load balancing with a custom server

Hello all,

I plan to use Linode to run a game server I've been working on, and have a question.

My idea was to set up load balancing so that the servers would get the load split up across them, but I'm not really sure what sort of setup I need. Does this have to be part of the server? Or is there a set of tools that will allow me to do this.

With this done, I could set up a round-robbin DNS setup so that people can connect to different servers easily. Does the DNS manager allow you to do this?

If you wanted the server to function as one realm that sort of cooperation would have to be built into the server application.
