Sizing down a linode

Hi all. I'm hoping this would be the correct section to post this question with regards to sizing down a linode.

I currently have a 1080 account and I'm thinking of sizing it all the way down to 360, and getting 2 more 360 nodes.

My question is, when I size down my node, will data be lost? Currently, the contents of my node is under 8 GB, so I'm hoping the process won't be destructive as to require me to do a fresh install.

Anyone who's sized down before encountered any problems when they did it? Were you good to go after the re-size?

If you're using the normal setup, your data will not be lost. The manager uses ext3's resizing tool, which will bail out if there isn't enough space.

If you're using raw disk images, um, I have no idea. I imagine you'd have to boot into Finnix or somesuch and resize your FS yourself.

(Of course, things can always go wrong and backups are always good!)

Thank you very much mnordhoff. Will back up and give it a try now. Thanks!

Please provide an update with your success or not.

Thanks,

Jeff
