Why did I wait?

I've been paying $220/mo for a dedicated server for years… simply out of habit. I've leased dedicated boxes long before VPS's were available.

In less than 2 hours I was able to move the main site I develop to Linode and it runs just great for a fraction of the cost. I've been throwing money away!

Thanks Linode -- your product is excellent. I'll be moving my other sites over this week.

I think all of us started with colo. After seeing what Linodes can do, I wouldn't go back…unless I'm setting up a Xen host server. :)

Thank you for the compliments!

If by "colo" you mean "an old coal-fired smoke-belching ancient steam-powered Pentium in my bedroom closet, serving websites from stacks of punchcards," then yes, I started with colo too.

Now I can bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate my data without problems!

I started with a bare motherboard on top of some Garfield books on the carpeted floor of the closet of my computer room (running RH9), moved to a dedicated server at ThePlanet (which I kept for more than half a decade, and ran RHEL3), moved to a VPS provider whose stability was rather questionable (Ubuntu Server), before finally settling in at Linode (Ubuntu Server). Let me tell you, it's been a breath of fresh air!

First a TRS-100 and then a Sinclair ZX81, assembly language programming on both. PU that was long ago.
