Ubuntu 8.10 --> 9.04 upgrade smooth as silk

Well, that was easy. Not a single problem. I used:

"update-manager -c"

Hello,

are you using duplicity, python-boto or s3cmd?

I setup a test machine and I'm havig problems with this packages on a clean install.

How I did it, found on ubuntu's website http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

1. Install update-manager-core if it is not already installed:

sudo apt-get install update-manager-core

2. Launch the upgrade tool:

sudo do-release-upgrade

No, I don't use those packages.

Hello,

I tryed this, but now, my system crashed and is unbootable.

I'll try Finnix to rescue it.

:cry: :cry: :cry:

I backed up my image disk, used the stephenmg method.

Went very smooth, my lamp server with ispconfig is as good as before. I'm a newbie and could not believe it worked :P

Well, I have created a new linode and performed this actions:

  • deploy 9.04 with everything i need;

  • copy the image to my original linode;

  • create a new profile for this image + /home + swap;

  • reboot with this new profile :)

voilá …

Speaking of Ubuntu 9.04, I run Linux Mint which is based on Ubuntu for my Desktop use. They do a simply outstanding job of cleaning up Ubuntu for one damn fine "polished" OS for the Desktop. I've been running for the last few days their RC of Mint 7 based on 9.04 on my laptop and Desktop system. Damn, I'm impressed! 8) 8)
