CentOS update procedure?

I noticed on the Wiki that you should exclude the kernel from system updates. It was for an earlier version of CentOS, not version 5.2.

For regular system updates, ie yum update, should the kernel be excluded? Is the kernel supplied with the standard distro immages modified for use with Linode?

Would yum update be detrimental?

Thank you,

Jeff

Unless you are using pv-grub, the kernel running on your Linode is supplied by the host machine. Updating the distro kernel is therefore not useful, but not harmful either.

Thank you, Peter.

That is just what I was looking for.
