IP Switch?

Hello! We have a bunch of sites on one load balancer that's on Ubuntu 18.04. We were hoping to setup new fresh boxes with Ubuntu 22 and then just do a switch of IP's so the old IP is now being used on the new boxes. Is that doable on Linode? Does that make sense? We didn't want to switch 500+ site domain settings if we could avoid it. Thanks!

Hello! Yes, you can achieve your goal with ease by using the IP transfer feature in Cloud Manager. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Log in to Cloud Manager:

  • Access Cloud Manager and click on "Linodes" in the left sidebar.

2. Select Your Linode Compute Instance:

  • Choose the Linode Compute Instance from the list that you want to work with.
  • Navigate to the "Network" tab for that instance.

3. Initiate IP Transfer:

  • In the "IP Addresses" table, locate and click on the "IP Transfer" button.

4. Choose Course of Action:

  • From the dropdown menu, select the action you want to perform:
    • Move To: This option allows you to move the IP address to another Compute Instance. Choose the destination Compute Instance from the next dropdown menu.
    • Swap With: This option swaps the IP addresses of two Compute Instances. Choose the destination Compute Instance and the specific IP address to swap with.

5. Complete the Transfer:

  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the IP transfer. If you are moving a public IPv4 address, ensure that there is at least one remaining public IPv4 address on the source Compute Instance. Otherwise, you will be greeted with an error.

Thank you so much for that!! Didn't think it would be that simple.

Thank you for answering, I appreciate you. Yes, migrating to new boxes with Ubuntu 22.04 on Linode and switching IP addresses is a feasible approach. To achieve this, you can first set up the new servers and configure them accordingly. Once satisfied, update the DNS records to point to the new IP addresses. To minimize downtime during the transition, you might consider lowering the time-to-live (TTL) values on your DNS records in advance. This will prompt faster propagation of the updated IP addresses across DNS servers. Ensure that all necessary configurations, dependencies, and files are transferred to the new servers, and perform thorough testing before updating DNS records. Linode's platform should support this migration, but it's crucial to consult Linode's documentation and support resources for any platform-specific nuances or best practices. I want to take help from their professional essay writer but before that I want to read reviews of that service so that I can trust them.
