Is it normal Linode provide us only blacklisted IPs?
Hello there,
I am facing an issue here, because Linode only provides me blacklisted IPs (Barracuda, UCEPROTECT, etc).
I have already destroyed and deployed a new Linode, around 5 times, and always I receive a blacklisted IP.
Tried to reach the technical support, but no answer.
Anyone has some idea?
Thanks in advance.

UCEPROTECT is a shakedown scheme. UCEPROTECT blacklists Linode's entire ASN -- some 283 CIDR blocks (of varying sizes) worldwide. EVERY Linode IP address is on UCEPROTECT.
I can't comment on Barracuda. Barracuda is a proprietary, subscription service:
https://netcorecloud.com/tutorials/barracuda-blacklist/
They do not divulge the methodology they use for formulating their reputations.
If you're willing to pay the blackmail for every Linode user, that would be a fool's errand. The scammers that operate UCEPROTECT do not offer any assurance that they won't re-list Linode's ASN immediately after the blackmail is paid.
For the most part, the big email providers (Comcast, Gmail, etc) don't pay any attention to UCEPROTECT. You shouldn't either.
See here for instructions to delist your IP addresses (your Linode has two -- IPv4 and IPv6 -- you need to make sure that both are delisted) from the Barracuda RBL:
https://www.ipxo.com/blog/remove-ip-from-barracuda-blocklist/
Setting up SPF, DMARC & DKIM seems to improve Barracuda reputations. According to:
https://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx
neither of my IP addresses nor my domain name appear on the Barracuda RBL.
Good luck.

P.S. Note that both the UCEPROTECT and Barracuda RBL listings only affect email…not web traffic.
P.P.S. There are lots of reasons why IPs/domains appear on blacklists. First, there's the legitimate assertion from some diligent email operator that a particular sender is engaged in spamming. Other than that, misconfigured and/or over-zealous spam filters can send (bogus) reports of spam activity to the blacklist operator(s). A reputable blacklist operator will always have a mechanism to delist that you never have to pay for. UCEPROTECT is just a scam.
Hi,
Many thanks. Glad to hear that.
I really didn't know UCEPROTECT was a scam. :(
