Changing operating system
Hi all,
I have a old ubuntu 18 which will end security support on April 2023.
I'd like to upgrade it to Debian 11 because Ubuntu 20+ is full of stuff I do not need (like snap core…).
What is the safest way?
Fire another linode box, install the new stuff and then switch the IP?
There are some guides?
My email DKIM-keys will be preserved or they are tied to my original box?
Thx!

Yes, this is what you want to do.

See here for how to swap the IP addresses between two Linodes:
https://www.linode.com/docs/guides/managing-ip-addresses/#transferring-ip-addresses
You have to be cognizant that an IP address swap between two Linodes will only swap the IPv4 addresses…not the IPv6 addresses. This is because of the way IPv6 addresses are allocated.

Your DKIM public key is stored as a TXT record in your DNS configuration…not on your Linode.

Hi, last question I promise :)
For the IPv6 address what is the correct way to transfer it?
Or it is not possible at all?
If not possible, it can bring me trouble with Letsencrypt?
Thank you!

It’s not possible. I'm sorta fuzzy on the details but I'm told it has to do with how your IPv6 address is allocated/assigned to you (and SLAAC).

Certificates are issued to domains… not IP addresses.
