Will Linode's maintenance reboots start a node that is powered down?
Folks:
I occasionally have one of my nodes deliberately halted because installations are incomplete and I am concerned about security.
What I want to know that if Linode does a data center wide reboot to upgrade hardware, will that reboot cause servers that are shut down by the customer to be booted up?
I want to make sure that if I deliberately power down a linode on my dashboard, that when Linode does maintenance, it will not be accidentally started up until I explicitly power it up.
Currently, I am working on an email server and I am not finished. I powered it down to prevent possible phisinig or spamming.
Thank you

To my knowledge, Linodes that are powered down will remain powered down if a host is restarted, or your Linode is migrated to another host. If it's powered up, it will be shut down, migrated or not depending on whether only a reboot was required or a migration was needed, then powered back up.
Usually, in any of the support tickets I've received for maintenance notices, they specifically state that the Linode will be returned to its previous state upon completion of the maintenance, whether that be shut down or online.
I hope that helps.
