Compiling ATLAS on the current Linode boxen

Has anyone compiled Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software (ATLAS, http://math-atlas.sf.net/) on the newer Linodes? I'd like to know if it is faster than the standard ATLAS version that come with Ubuntu. It tunes by CPU ticks rather than wall clock time, so it should in theory tune OK on a Linode.

I use the Ubuntu SSE2 version

http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/devel/atlas3-sse2-dev

on my development laptop, and it seems pretty good.
