How to increase upload speed via Nextcloud installed on Yunohost?

I have a Linode 2Gb plan and I was able to install Yunohost and then Nextcloud for file storage. But what I noticed right away is the upload speed is rather slow (less than 1Mb/s) when I read that Linode upload speeds can go much higher than that. I also ran Linode's speed test on the server location I'm using and the upload speed was around 44 Mb/s.

Is there a way to increase the upload speed?

Your 1 MiB/s connection wouldn't be using a (busy) wireless connection through a large ISP (like Xfinity/Comcast) would it? Or, worse yet, is your connection provided by your wireless provider (ATT, Verizon, TMobile, etc)? If so, what you're seeing is (more or less) normal (especially in the second case)…

My connection is through Comcast/Xfinity, (wired connection) but it's a Gigabit plan that goes up tp 40Mbps upload. I have uploaded to other servers with much faster speeds that are close to that number.

Have you used traceroute to map the route from your home/wherever to your Linode. There could be some node along the way that's throttling. The second thing you should do is examine whatever software your using on the Linode to receive the upload.

It's been my experience (caveat emptor) that a lot of this canned software for "cloud services" has a ton of unnecessary "connection quality" junk in it (so it will work over 2400bps dialup lines) that just slows down a broadband connection.

Granted your situation seems to be extreme…and I doubt that what I describe is your problem… However, you might try some other mechanism besides NextCloud (like sftp) to see if you get better performance.

You also might want to tune your web server/PHP/NextCloud using some of the info here:

https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/configuration_files/big_file_upload_configuration.html

Since Yunohost is a semi-closed environment, I don’t know how successful you’ll be at this…
