You need to learn how to use an FTP program and the free FileZilla will work (although I don't like it or use it.) There are many tutorial videos and sites on how to use FTP to interact with a server.

There are probably just as many resources for using the file manager in cPanel.

If you are a total newbie to maintaining and working with websites Linode is probably not a good match for you. You might do better with a shared hosting service. We (newmediacreate dot com) recommend Pair Networks (pair dot com) for our clients.

Hello acanton77,

Thanks so much for your reactivity.

I will follow your expert's advice; but for the meantime please what's a server roots credentials and where do I find mine? -:)

What operating system is your system using. I'll assume it is Ubuntu since that so popular.

Not sure what you mean by root "credentials" unless it is just the password.

Password for root is not set in Ubuntu which means the root login is disabled by default.

The user account created during Ubuntu installation is associated with all sudo capabilities. You could use sudo for commands that require root privileges in Ubuntu terminal.

However you can enable the root account and set a password for it. To do so use:

sudo passwd root

Firstly you will be asked for your current user password and after this you will be asked for the new password twice (new and retype password) as your new root password.
