Getting 403 forbidden on Reverse DNS Wazuh

I created a Wazuh using default settings. But when I try to access it using reverse DNS. It gives me 403 Forbidden error.

A 403 Forbidden error is usually caused by access misconfiguration. Either a file or directory is misconfigured to improperly read, write, or execute in its permission settings. While the instructions below will not have you changing the actual configuration of files or directories in the command line, the Cloud Manager will make those changes for you.

To start, make sure that you've set up reverse DNS in your Cloud Manager:

  • Log in to your Cloud Manager.
  • Click Linodes and then select your Wazuh instance.
  • Find the IP address you would like to connect to and go to the Network tab.
  • From the list of IP addresses, choose the one you want to connect to and click on the ellipses to the right of that IP.
  • Click on Edit RDNS.
  • An Edit Reverse DNS screen should pop up.
  • Enter the domain that you would like that IP address to connect to. For example, example.com.
  • Click Save.

These instructions can be found here in this guide on setting up reverse DNS via your Cloud Manager.

Another possibility is that you had not yet added Linode’s name servers as the authoritative name servers for your domain. To do that, here is a guide.

Our Wazuh page has instructions on how to launch a Wazuh instance. It also includes instructions on how to set a custom domain.

It’s also possible that your DNS/RDNS did not yet have time to propagate. With default settings, your Linode’s TTL (time to live) will be 24 hours. Until that TTL runs out and the DNS propagates, RDNS will not work.

Here is a guide for more information on troubleshooting DNS records.
