But I have not enabled the firewall, why would it block my connection?

I don't know what to tell you… Your question was asked previously very recently. I thought the info would be helpful.

I don't use Shadowsocks. I imagine it's some sort of SOCKS5 proxy… That being said, SOCKS5 will tunnel TCP and UDP but will not tunnel ICMP. So, if you are using ICMP ECHO (aka ping) to test your setup, it's not going to work.

Also, perhaps you're trying to access a SOCKS5 server that doesn't exist…used example.com someplace in your configuration…or using a port where the SOCKS5 server is not really listening? Common mistakes both…

But I have not enabled the firewall

You must not care very much about the safety/security of your Linode and the information that may be located on it.

Thank you very much for your answer, even though I don't really understand it.
The server I deployed is the one-click server through the marketplace, I followed this instruction on the Linode website. It does not mention any tcp udp stuff you mentioned, that's why I don't quite understand.

Does deploying Shadowsocks through marketspace no longer work? If so I will try a more complicated method.
