Same user (profile/login) on multiple Linode accounts?

Hi, I set up separate Linode accounts a while ago for my personal and business uses, mostly because I need to pay for these things separately. Is there any way I can have a unified login (username/email/password) for both accounts? I have just looked at setting up Github authentication for one of them. Would I be able to use that same github user authentication on the other one as well?

One reason this would be nice is specifically this community Q/A… right now I need to remember which account I've activated this forum space on, but it would be more streamlined to not have to keep track of that (especially if for some reason I need to set up a third account for a client down the road).

Thanks a lot for your thoughts, I'm mostly wondering how other folks deal with this.

I believe that, in order to have one account/login, you have to put all your Linodes under that account/login.

I can't believe that your problem with respect to segregating costs is unique to you. I would contact support and see how they can help you do this.

You can add sub-users to your account (Account Settings > Users & Grants.)

Could you add your “personal” account as a sub user to your “business” account, and the just use your personal login to manage both accounts?

I’m not sure how you’d select an account, however. I’m assuming there is a prompt to choose which account you want to use when you login, but I don’t know for sure.

The OP's question was about segregating Linode costs -- personal vs business. "Sub-users" provide access levels only and won't help him accomplish his goal.

Thanks for the responses. I suppose it's a two-sided thing: adding a second credit card to a single account to segregate costs per Linode would be one direction to go, or (more what I was wondering about in this question) creating multiple accounts with a single credit card on each one and then using the same username/login credentials to get into each account would be another way to go.

@andysh I've looked at adding a sub-user to an account, but as far as I can tell creating a new sub-user really creates a new Linode username/login, which must be different from any existing username/login. What I was hoping for would be the ability to add an existing username/login to an account. But I think things are just not set up that way…

@stevewi

The OP said he had already setup separate accounts to split the costs, but wanted an easier way to manage both of them behind a single login.

My suggestion was to add one of the accounts as a sub-user to the other, so one login could manage the 2 separate accounts.

@adamcox that’s such a shame, that could be so useful if you could add an existing Linode user as a sub-user to a different account (thinking of agencies who want separate billing for clients resources but one login to manage it all.)

@andysh Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Especially paired with the existing ability to login via Github, I think it would be a really slick way for profiles and accounts to be structured here.
