It should be noted, by anyone else reading this thread, the syntax for mirrorselect used in the article is no longer valid.

Rather than the -a option producing a message:

"use of the -a option is deprecated - automatic is enabled by default"

…it just throws an error.

It's been deprecated for a long time now. They notified people when they removed it from the code.

Personally, I think that particular option should just be silently ignored, but they did notify people.
