What do I pay for when I power off an instance?

If I power off an instance do I still pay the monthly price?

@mibrahim Yes, you still pay the same rate whether it’s on or off. This is because they’re reserving memory and disk space for your Linode.

Hey @mibrahim. @LouWestin is correct - if a machine is powered down, it is still considered active on your account. While a server is powered off, it is still utilizing data center resources such as RAM, CPU, storage, etc. In order for a service to no longer accrue a balance, it would need to be deleted from your account. If a server is only active on your account for part of the month, you would then pay the hourly rate for that server's plan on your next invoice.

We have this laid out in more detail in our billing guide here: How Linode Billing Works
