Does linode support Ubuntu 20.10?

My linode box is currently running 20.04. Attempts to upgrade to 20.10 fail with following error message:

----- BEGIN CONSOLE SPEW -----
Invalid package information

After updating your package information, the essential package
'ubuntu-minimal' could not be located. This may be because you have
no official mirrors listed in your software sources, or because of
excessive load on the mirror you are using. See /etc/apt/sources.list
for the current list of configured software sources.
In the case of an overloaded mirror, you may want to try the upgrade
again later.
----- END CONSOLE SPEW -----

I've never seen this problem during an Ubuntu version upgrade attempt in several decades of using Linux. Previous attempts to upgrade on Linode met with smooth, untroubled success each time, even when the target version was not LTS.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @gold

I spun up a new Linode using Ubuntu 20.04 and was able to upgrade to 20.10 without encountering an error. Here's the /etc/apt/sources.list for the Linode I deployed prior to upgrading.

In the past other Linode users have encountered this same issue, and have resolved it by adding some lines to the sources.list file. I've included some other posts from the Community Questions site that include what was added to the file.

How to upgrade Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04 -- the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' could not be located.

In your case, you'll want to replace the codename with focal as that's the version you're currently using. I hope this helps!
