UK Linode (Virtual Linux Hosting)

Hi there, I use linode.com for my virtual linux provider in the USA and I love it - especially the CPU guarantees (so that other CPU hogs don't take away all my processing time).

I would like to know if anyone can recommend a good virtual linux host in the UK as I would like to host some forums there as well as provide myself a geographically-diverse secondary DNS.

If linode.com want to start business in the UK I will be happy to sign up for a second server there!

Bytemark are the only people who come anywhere near Linode in terms of product and service - and they are a lot more expensive (GBP15/mo [~$28] for the rough equivalent of a Linode 80, Bytemark 320 GBP50/mo [~$93] vs $60 for a Linode 300, all plus 17.5% tax if you are in the EU).

caker should ship that server to London right now!

If you don't mind having another VPS in the US, then it's worth looking at Panix

http://www.panix.com/corp/virtuals/

The costs and service levels are pretty much the same as linode.

Although it's still in the US, it is on the other coast and differently connected network-wise and the support staff are good, so this should give you the redundancy you need. [ Disclaimer; I'm friends with some of the Panix staff ].

I use both linode and panix v-colo for my VPS solutions and I'm very happy with both and don't hesitate to recommend either of them. Linode has the more mature solution, especially with the web control panel (v.v.nice).

netdirekt.de - Germany, not the UK. This is not a virtual server but a real physical one for 15 EUR a month. They seem to be using old compaq deskpros but their setup lets you power cycle them or boot a recovery system from CD. I have a server from them and it does work as expected. Also 500 gig of bandwidth a month is nice.
