"Maximum Users" error when trying to connect to cPanel?

Linode Staff

Hey all,

When trying to log into my cPanel I am getting the following error message:

The number of users on the server exceeds the maximum number of allowed users for your host server.
For more information, contact your hosting provider.

What does this mean, and what can I do to fix this? Do you need to increase my user limit or something?

Thanks in advance!

Where can we upgrade the license? I cannot find it at Linode control panel.

The cPanel license is managed through their website, since they are the provider of the product. You can find the licenses they have at their website here

Each subscription plan they offer has a number of users that are allowed access (e.g. "Solo" - 1 account, "Admin" - Up to 5 Accounts, et cetera).

If you don't have an account with cPanel then you would choose the product you want that corresponds to how many users need access to your account, and then add it to your cart and checkout. Then you would be prompted to create an account.

If you need to upgrade an existing plan you have with cPanel you would need to log in first and then make the subscription changes internally.

Also can we delete unused users?

this guide I found through a quick google search appears to touch on this, although this article is a couple of years old, so the process and cPanel's specific menu items may have varied slightly since then.
