How to upgrade Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04 -- the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' could not be located.

I have Ubuntu 19.10 running. I'd like to upgrade to 20.04 because it will be unsupported in a few months (and I meant to install an LTS release to being with, but wasn't paying attention). The command I'm using is "do-release-upgrade -d" though I've tried it without the -d as well.

I am getting the error:

After updating your package information, the essential package
'ubuntu-minimal' could not be located. This may be because you have
no official mirrors listed in your software sources, or because of
excessive load on the mirror you are using. See /etc/apt/sources.list
for the current list of configured software sources.
In the case of an overloaded mirror, you may want to try the upgrade
again later.

I've tried the upgrade with Prompt=LTS and Prompt=Normal in /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades

@robo45h could you provide the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list? Here are mine on a new Ubuntu 19.10 deployment – I was just able to upgrade to 20.04 successfully by doing a full upgrade (apt update && apt dist-upgrade, then rebooting), then doing do-release-upgrade -d.

For anyone else having this problem, another community post about upgrading an earlier version of Ubuntu led me to this solution: I added the following lines to the end of my sources.list

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ eoan main universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ eoan-security main universe multiverse

Thanks robo45h, that worked for me. The "main" on the first of your two lines was not needed and generated warnings, but otherwise all good.

Question re Linode Dashboard: after the upgrade I am indeed running 20.04, but the dashboard thinks I'm at 19.10, per the below

linode<####>
Ubuntu 19.10, Linode 4GB: 2 CPU, 80GB Storage, 4GB RAM

  1. Does this matter
  2. How do I fix it?
