Hey Nopeppermint,

Yes, you can absolutely install Clear Linux on Linode! You'd basically want to follow this guide written by our Docs team on how to install a custom distro. If you'd want a desktop environment, I'd suggest downloading the desktop version, otherwise the server iso from that download page you linked should work nicely.

As a side note, Clear Linux is ran and maintained by Intel, and is known to have a few improvements specifically for Intel processors. Our host fleet is mixed between different Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC chips, so you may not get a huge increase if you are on an EPYC CPU, however it appears that there are still some performance increases over Ubuntu with AMD EYPC. Just some food for thought! Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Hi Smccabe

Thanks for your answer

I would also like to try Clear Linux, but have a few questions. I assume Linodes are run on virtual machines:

  • Is there a mix between AMD and Intel in Frankfurt?
  • Are Linodes often moved across hardware platforms?
  • Is it possible to be Intel-exclusive?

Either way, it looks like Clear Linux is the "fastest distro" even on AMD.
