How do I move from a shared hosting service?
I would love to move to lined (cost, stability) from a shared host, but I have no real idea what to do. I'm not quite at the level that it appears I should be to begin using Linode, so I'm wondering if there is a newbie step by step that I can read (I can't seem to find one that's at my level) or if this is not a great idea for me to pursue. Any help you can throw my way is appreciated.

I'm happy to help you out. Keep in mind that Linode does have shared hosting, so you might want to look at one of our Dedicated plans.
Our guides are written with the beginning user in mind, and they're pretty straightforward. I'm going to link you to some documentation that I think will help you out, especially being new to Linux and Linode.
The first is our Getting Started guide. This will cover all of the basics, like signing up for an account and creating your first Linode. Just follow the steps, and you'll be up and running in no time.
Since our Linodes run on Linux, I want to also give you some guides that give you basic Linux information. Check out the following:
Linux System Administration Basics
Since using the command line is an important part of using Linux, here's a guide which gives you some of the basics on that:
If you don't know what Linode plan to choose, we can help with that as well. Check out this link:
I hope this is some good information to get you started. Our Support team (which I am a part of) is here for you 24/7/365 and will always be happy to help as much as we can.
You've already found our Community Questions site (right here where you asked this question) - and this is also a great place to get help from the Linode Community.
