How do I repair filesystem errors on my Linode?

Linode Staff

I'm trying to boot my Linode and I'm seeing this error in the Console:

/dev/sda: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.

How do I correct this so I can boot my Linode?

The error you're seeing indicates that there's some corruption in the filesystem on your Linode. To attempt correct this, you can run through the instructions in the fsck section of our Rescue and Rebuild guide. You'll need to reboot your Linode into Rescue Mode in order to run fsck.

If that fails, then you can attempt to restore your Linode from a backup.
