Because those are still in pulic beta mode. Only existing customers can request that their Linode is transferred to a Xen-based host. As I've understood it, stability on these accounts are still not 100%, so only those who can deal with so-to-speak-frequent reboots should register, and then from within the member area ("LPM" = "Linode Platform Manager").

Uhmm???

PUBLIC beta mode!!

I am part of "public"

If only existing customers can use it, its a "closed beta test"

so false-declaration here

Then sign up for a regular Linode and go to the Xen Public Registration page once activated. But, as I understand it, it's limited availability.

Why should I.

A "public beta test" is available for everyone without any restriction to buy other products.

So either remove the false-declaration, or make it real-public.

Why are you being a jerk? There is Xen beta test going, you could just ask the guys if you would be able to get a remaining Xen spot if you signed up? Barking threats on the forums seems unnescessary.

Why not? You have to pay for being part of the Xen beta test anyway. You're not buying "other products", you're buying a Linode. Putting your Linode under the Xen beta test is completely voluntary.

The definition of "public" can also vary. In this case, the "public" applies to the community of people who have Linodes. The definition of "public" isn't too restricted, but the "community" within the definition of "public" can be. Check your dictionary.

What they're trying to say is that it doesn't cost anything for a user to participate in the Xen beta. It's a free beta to existing (and theoretically new) customers. So you become a customer and then particiapte. It's publicly available to you in the sense that you can sign up for it –- but publicly available doesn't imply that there's no restrictions on it. Think about it, if I've got a product that I've released to the public, that doesn't mean I won't be charging money for it. ^.^

The discussion forum is usually representative of the community of people who are customers (and potential customers) of Linode. When you come here and act like a complete ass, expect to be treated as one (as with any other existing community out there).

Where does it say you'll be handling 2 VPS from Linode? Signing up with the Xen public beta will transfer your existing Linode to a Xen host. It doesn't set up another.

How is this even remotely helpful? How is it even remotely useful to post nothing other than an insult?

I read the whole thread, I thought the original poster was a bit off-base in his accusations that Linode is being misleading, but I really don't see the point in outright insults. Seriously. Don't you have anything better to do with your time?

I read forum topics that have new posts, and it's a total waste of my time to open a topic only to find nothing other than an insult added.
