Does resize the swap file might overwite data on main drive

Hi

I´m running a vps since some time and now I need to increase the swap file. I read the article

https://www.linode.com/community/questions/9449/swap-resize-via-linode-manager

But I´m wonder if, as space for swap will be taken from the main partition, I risk to loose/damage data on the main partition.

Is there a way to assure swap will be taken from not used space ?

Regards

Alvaro

If you have an EXT3 or EXT4 filesystem, then the Cloud Manager can safely resize your Linode's disk with no risk of data loss. Then, you can resize the Swap disk as needed. It'll mean that there's a little less space on your Linode's data disk, but there's no risk to the files on your Linode.
