Hey there,

This Mikrotik Documentation provides a helpful manual to use chr on Linode.

You would have also needed an installer disk in addition to a boot profile. This guide helps walk through the steps needed to complete this process.

If you'd like further assistance, let us know where you got stuck and what errors you are encountering. We'll do our best to help further.

Hey Team,

I've my Mikrotik CHS up and running, however it only shows my Public Interface. I had added a Private Interface (IPv4) prior to installing Router OS, however it's not showing.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance,
Jay

Rebooting with Network Helper should bring the private interface up. If you're looking to avoid downtime, this Community post provides steps for manually adding a private interface:

Add new private IP with Network Helper without reboot?

Hello again @JayNZ Following up on your response to our tweet, in which you said:

Thanks for the reply Team! Sadly Mikrotik SSH doesn’t allow commands such as those you’ve documented. The product isn’t normal old Linux. Any further thoughts?

Looking at the documentation closer, I think I'd need to know more about what you're trying to accomplish. I say this because I'm not sure what you're trying to connect to with the private IPv4 address. Private IPs only connect across the private network of the data center and cannot connect to any external network.

I found this page in their documentation, which covers IP addressing, though I believe it's more geared toward their routers, rather than RouterOS:

IP Addressing

The following link is a section from their Wiki that I was able to locate that discusses private interfaces. It looks to be a guide for making privately assigned IPs publically available. It's seemingly the opposite of what you're looking to do, but I thought to reverse the commands may help you get to where you need to go.

How to link Public addresses to Local ones

Ultimately, you may have to reach out to MikroTik's Support team to best assist you if their documentation doesn't provide what you're looking for.

Hey @watrick

I've a server in Linode which has both Private and Public interfaces which I would like to extend to my Home Lab using an layer 2 EoIP Tunnel (Mikrotik Protocol for Ethernet over IP). I can then have devices at home talk to the Linode subnet using Private IP Addresses as an extension of my Home Lab Layer 2 Network.

To facilitate this, I need to have a Mikrotik router in Linode to act as the end-point there for the EoIP tunnel. I've been able to deploy the Mikrotik CHR just fine, but it's only showing Eth1 which is connected to the Public Adapter. I can't get it to find Eth2 :(

I can therefore make the EoIP Tunnel back to my Home Lab, but can't talk to the other Linode servers (all within the same DC which I understand is a consideration).

I'd love to get this second NIC seen by Router OS. It's added to the Linode machine, but just isn't seen by the Mikrotik Software.

I would have the same issue trying any sort of Site-to-Site VPN as I need both a Private and Public interface on the Linode Router VM.
