Unable to establish an FTP connection with my Debian 9 Linodeee

I'm trying to make an FTP connection with my Debian 9 Linode and I'm getting an authentication error each time:
"Authentication failed. Critical error: Could not connect to server"

Using FileZilla port 22.

I tried changing the root password - getting the same problem.

Hi maralex,

First ensure that you have fully secured your Linode using our How To Secure Your Server guide.

Our Transfer Files with FileZilla guide offers some fixes for pubkey authentication after securing your server. This guide should be helpful if you need further guidance on making sure FileZilla is working properly on your Linode, and ensuring Port 22 is open.

If you were using the quickconnect feature, we recommend that you instead use the site manager which can be found by clicking on:

File → Site Manager

Here, you can manually input your username, password, IP, and port number. Be sure that at the top for Protocol, you select “SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol”. This will give you an added security layer to your file transfers. I had some better luck doing this manually, rather than using the Quick Connect feature.

Good luck!
