Can servers in the same datacenter be prevented from sharing hardware?

I’m interested in creating a HA setup. For performance reasons, I want to be able to commit replicated writes without waiting on inter-datacenter latency, which means multiple servers in the same datacenter. However, maybe my 2+ VMs get run on the same machine, and my “HA” setup actually does nothing to help me survive disk and other hardware failure. Is there any way to ensure that VMs don’t get run on the same machine, other than putting them in different datacenters?

Nope, but you can ask support to make sure they are on different nodes after launching them.

If you open a ticket then myself or another member of the Support team would be happy to take a look. It's unlikely that two Linodes would land on the same host automatically, as we try to make sure your Linodes are as spread out as possible within a given datacenter. If you do happen to have two Linodes from the same high availability cluster on the same host we may be able to move one for you.

Thank you, I’ll open a ticket once I’ve actually got them running. Once they’re verified running on separate machines, I assume that anything that could change that would also result in some downtime, therefore an email and me knowing about it?
