Why doesn't free -m match the full amount of RAM of my nanode plan?

Linode Staff

When running free -m it states I only have 1882228 kilobytes of memory. However, my nanode plan says I get 2 full GB.

The reason for the discrepancy is that free -m pulls from /proc/meminfo and does not take into account memory dedicated to running kernel binaries. You can read more about that here.
