Multiple IP: Auto or Manual?
When adding additional IP addresses for SSL sites, does Linode automatically configure them, or is it a must to use manual configuration to get the additional IPs running?

They are "automatically" configured if you have Network Helper enabled and reboot after adding the address, as Network Helper generates a static networking configuration on every boot that includes all of your assigned IPv4 addresses. If you don't have Network Helper enabled, then you need to configure them yourself.
To add on to what @dwfreed said: If you're OK with rebooting your Linode, manual configuration isn't a must. Network Helper can automatically bring up new public or private IP addresses. Just make sure Network Helper is enabled, reboot, and you should be good.
If you don't want to reboot your Linode, then yes, you'll need to manually configure and bring up your new address(es). Our Static IP Configuration guide has specifics on how to configure and bring up a new public or private IP address.
I hope this helps!
