"Record conflict - CNAMES must be unique" error

Linode Staff

Hi,

I am trying to configure my DS records for Yandex mail. I followed below link for this configuration.

https://yandex.com/support/domain/set-mail/cname.html

I configured mx record as mx.yandex.net.

Then tried to add a CNAME Record. I set "hostname" field as "mail" and "Aliases to" as "domain.mail.yandex.net". But it gave "Record conflict - CNAMES must be unique" error.

What should I do to configure it properly?

Hello,

On the page that you referenced, I believe you may be running into this error because you need to replace the "domain" in the "Aliases to" field with the name of your domain:

Value — “domain.mail.yandex.net.”. Note that you don't need to change the server name (don't replace "domain" with the name of your domain).

So instead of:

Value — “domain.mail.yandex.net.”

I believe it should be:

Value — “your_domain_name.mail.yandex.net.”
