Network transfer pool vs bandwidth

Linode Staff

I am trying to understand the relationship between the network transfer pool and bandwidth. What is the transfer pool?

The network transfer pool is the maximum amount of outbound data from your Linode per month (inbound data is always free). The bandwidth is the maximum speed of that data. Essentially, the Network Transfer Pool is quantity while the bandwidth is the speed.

For example, a 4GB Linode has a 3 TB outbound transfer limit (quantity) and 1Gbps bandwidth for outbound traffic (speed).

You can exceed the transfer limit, however, you would be charged for any overages. Inbound traffic is not counted towards your transfer limit each month.

Take a look at our billing page for more details
