How do I put my linode into cold storage?

I'm using my linode on and off with long periods (several months) of downtime. Is it possible to keep the backup copies of the linode, but drop the linode itself during those months, so I don't pay a full premium on it?

Is linode backup system suitable for this, or I would have to go to a third party service (I use Google Drive)? Thank you!

Linode's Backups Service does not provide a solution for storing a backup of a Linode that has been removed from your account. You will need to keep the Linode active to maintain the backups created by that service.

What you can do is copy your disk to a local machine over an SSH connection. We have a great guide that can walk you through the process.
