Moving to a new Linux Distribution

I am currently running Ubuntu 4.10 but want to move to Debian. I have a 64mb Account so I cant just make another partition and cant make that one smaller because I only have 189MB left.

All the documents I need are in one directory, is it possible to add a partition with thoughts documents in it for an easy move?

Are the documents you want to keep less than 180 meg? If so create a filesystem with your spare space, copy the documents to it. Shutdown and delete all filesystems except the new one. install debian and you are done.

If your documents are bigger you can resize existing filesystems to free some space.

Might I also suggest that you back up your documents before you do anything. You can never be too careful!
