Question about server strength and website traffic

Hello,

I just signed up for a 96 a little while ago, just waiting for activation now.

I've been using managed webhosts for my site in the past, but I want to give VPS a try.

I'm still learning tons about linux, so setting up apache and such should be interesting :)

My question is related to website traffic and the strength of a shared server.

I have a site that does 1000-1500 uniques and 20K-30K pageviews per day. I have no frame of reference on server speed vs traffic, so I'm wondering if a 96 is gonna have any trouble with that traffic.

Please forgive the n00b, just learnin along the way :)

Thanks,

-Kevin

Depends on the site and what else you having running on your linode.

If it is a static site you should not have any problems.

If it is a dynamic site, you should not have any major problems, may seem to be a bit slow but nothing major.

It really does depend on what you intend running on your linode.

From my experience, if it's just Apache, MySQL, PHP then you should be ok. It's gonna be tight but it should handle the load. You may want to look at the parameters of Apapche (maxServers, minServers, etc.) and keep an eye on it for the first week or so but I believe it will handle the load.

If, however, you are also running a mail server on the same box then I would suggest you go with at least a 128 if not a 196.
