Network connectivity problem ?

I'm experiencing excessive timeouts to host24.linode.com at the moment. It's very hard to work on the server since SSH keeps on dropping the connection.

I'm located in UK, and I've tried connecting to host24.linode.com via 2 different Internet link - and same problem.

I wonder if anyone experiencing this as well ?

Thanks,

Harry

It seems to be a problem at HE

I opened a ticket short while ago about this.

Tracerouting is fine up until the last hop when rtt goes from 80ms to 1200ms. I tried pinging host 19/20/21/22 and saw the same tjhing so I'd say it's a network issue.

Thanks for the info - I've been trying to do some work in the last hour and was wondering if my server is being attacked (a bit paranoid here after one of my server was DoS-ed :) )

Fingers crossed then that this will pass soon.

cheers, HS

I'm having issues too :(

I see the same thing on host 10, wrt ping times. I previously saw 1200ms, and now it is around 530, but also times out.

Here is a traceroute:

i was silly and thought it was host13, so everyone go and laugh at my forum topic in General discussion.

at any rate: ditto on network issues. host13 is definately suffering.

here's a traceroute for what its worth:

Still issues, anyone heard an update anywhere?

Does anyone know if HE have a public network status page? I have not been able to find one.

I am on host 10 and getting the same issues.

Count me in! host24.linode.com very spotty network performance. It will seem ok few a few moments, then appear to lock up completely.

Who's running the Pr0n servers?

Wasn't that you ??

Seriously, HE is supposed to have redundancies in their infrastructure - but this problem is not the first. If I recall correctly, phpbb.com was down due to power failure (and they're supposed to have their own backup power generator). Oh well…

Everything is looking better for me now.

What about everyone else?

host13 up to full speed again.

where was chris during all of this? i guess there probably wasn't anything he could do other than bitch out HE.

edit: check out this post to see Chris's announcement.

Host 10 appears to be much better….lets hope that's it :)

performance seems better…. for now

I gave up trying to use my Linode (on host 9) around 13:00 (GMT+2) so that's around 4.5 hours of trouble, by the looks of it.

I've been working for quite a while now without getting disconnected..

cheers, HS

Hi all,

I am very disappoint with quality of HE network. This morning network issue (US-EST) was not the first time that HE datacenter makes many of us unable/slow to access our box. I think Chris have to talk with HE more seriously about these happened issues.

I am not looking for a credit back to my account for network blackout. I just simply want to access my box 24/7 and I understand these issues beyond Chris's control. However, many of us run important services on Linode. The blackout issue must be minimized by our provider (in this case HE)

I do not know about the other datacenter (like ThePlanet) has the same problem (blackout every month for 3-4 hours) or not?

Hope my request is not "too much" for what we are paying for?

Cheers,

After I was notified of the network problems, I had contacted HE within just a few minutes (around 8:30AM EDT). There wasn't much I could do. From the report I later received from HE, it was a wide-spread DDoS attack that took them a while (?) to get under control…

ThePlanet has not had the same magnitude of issues. If I recall correctly, there was one problem almost a year ago due to a power cable being pulled accidentally by ThePlanet staff. It was a minimal outage as it's an easy thing to recover from. There may have been a single network outage issue also months and months ago, I can't recall. But outages at ThePlanet are definitely not a monthly, or even bi-yearly, occurrance.

I'm kinda dissappointed in what I've read about HE, especially considering that I was fond of them as I hosted my first website from an account with them in like 1998 and had a great experience at the time. They even sent me a Christmas card which I thought was nice. But I'm really glad that my Linode is at ThePlanet (started on host5 at ThePlanet, now on host31 at ThePlanet).
